Why we made Joyolution?
It all started one day at my office when I noticed a mug on my colleague’s desk. It was one of those “#1 Dad” mugs, just plain white with black text. And I thought, “That's such a cute thing, but these must be better designed so that they are more unique.” It felt like there was so much more potential for custom products—mugs, t-shirts, whatever—to be more artistic, more interesting, and more personal. Something you’d actually enjoy using, not just something generic with your name slapped on it.
The real problem
But here’s the problem: creating truly custom designs usually involves a lot of manual work, which drives up the price. That’s when I started thinking—there has to be a better way. There has to be a way to make personalized items that don’t feel mass-produced, without it costing an arm and a leg.
An idea was born
That’s when I started exploring the idea of using AI. I had been playing around with generative AI, and I thought, “Why not use AI to create custom designs for products?” That way, you get something truly unique and personal, but without the high cost of manual design work. The more I thought about it, the more excited I got. I started with the idea of custom mugs, but as I kept exploring, I realized that this could go way beyond that.
Then it hit me—what about t-shirts? Most t-shirts you see are made by big companies that pump out thousands of the same design. Everyone’s walking around in the same thing. It’s not personal, it doesn’t let you express who you really are. So I thought, why not use AI to help people design their own t-shirts? A t-shirt shouldn’t just be a piece of fabric—it should be a canvas where you can show the world who you really are, what you care about, what inspires you.
The birth of Joyolution
